Details
‘Calcographie (the art of copper engraving). An original, wonderfully stylised, 1929 Art Deco plate from the French ‘Official Bulletin of Master Printers’. First produced in 1912 and again in 1913, this stunning portfolio was then produced annually between 1923 to 1937. Referred to as a spectacular ‘technological showcase’ this inspirational portfolio featured examples of printing techniques /machinery, paper samples, and superb typography – this plate being a great example. We love the stylised ship – the way the smoke from the ship’s funnels mimics the ocean waves – and the planes flying overhead – Art Deco imagery at its very best!
